Aerosol Cans
Try to avoid buying aerosols. Choose pump sprays instead. Making aerosols uses a lot of energy and the gases used may damage the environment.
-
Don’t put aerosols into can banks.
-
Don’t crush them – they may explode!
-
Don’t put on a fire!
-
Dispose of aerosol cans in the normal rubbish collection.
Aluminium (cans and foil)
Many cans are made from aluminium. Aluminium isn’t a natural material, it has to be extracted from its ore – bauxite – which is mined and then 'smelted' in a very energy-intensive process.
Recycling aluminium requires only 5% of the energy and produces only 5% of the CO2 emissions compared with original production. It also cuts down on litter and the pressure on waste disposal systems, especially landfill.
Recycling aluminium is very effiecient. Aluminium cans can be recycled over and over again.
How to recycle
- Drink Cans and food tins can be recycled in blue bins or recycling points or at civic amenity sites.
- FoE Glasgow collects clean, flattened and crushed cans and clean foil which are sold to Alcan to raise money for the group. Phone 0141-334-1050 or email us.
