Glass
-
Glass jars and containers are very reusable in so many ways. Re-use wherever possible: beekeepers and jam makers appreciate jars.
-
Return medicine bottles to chemists.
-
Buy powdered products in refill packs, if possible, and transfer to jars. Remember to label clearly.
-
Buy drinks in returnable bottles – and remember to return them!
-
Recycle bottles and jars in bottle banks. Don't dispose of flat glass or light bulbs in bottle banks, but carefully wrapped, in rubbish bins.
-
Fluorescent light bulbs: consult Glasgow City Council - Recycling: Tel: 0141 287 2063. These contain mercury, and should be safely disposed of.
Glasses (Spectacles)
Charities such as Oxfam often take old spectacles, as does Boots the Chemist, for sending to developing countries.
