Leaves
- Composting leaves produces nutritious soil improver, cuts demand for peat and reduces gases from landfill. Fill black plastic bags, add a little soil and a few worms, and wait a few months. Use on garden, or in pots on your balcony.
- If you can’t compost, and have no kerbside garden waste collection, try to take this waste to a civic amenity site, where it is processed for use in public parks.
Light Bulbs
- Don't put used bulbs in bottle banks. Dispose of in household rubbish.
- Fluorescent bulbs contain toxic heavy metals and must be disposed of as hazardous waste. Contact the local authority for advice.
- Buy energy saving light bulbs which last much longer and cost much less to run.
Litter
- Dropping litter, dumping and fly tipping is illegal as well as, anti-social, wasteful and causes pollution. Dispose of all waste responsibly and appropriately, recycling as much as possible. Report fly tipping by phoning 0800 027 9188.
